Aiming High for Disabled Children - Better Support for Families Family and Children's Fun and Participation Workshop Saturday 22nd November 2008, 10am - 1.00pm Alton Maltings Centre, Maltings Close, Alton, GU34 1DT Throughout the spring and summer we've been working with you on exploring how we develop services for disabled children and their families through the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme. So far we have held 7 consultation workshops; analysed the results from your questionnaires, and met up with Special Needs Groups across the County. From your ideas, we then held a Next Steps workshop with Christine Lenehan, Chief Executive Council for Disabled Children, to check out what parents and young people wanted from the Aiming High programme. Today gives a chance to see what we're doing to meet the main aims of the Government programme. It is also an opportunity to meet with other families and tell us what you think of our plans. One of the key things you have told us is how we need to improve our partnership with parents and become better at providing the right information at the right time. To help us to do this, we are intending to set up 3 Parents and Carers Forums across the county; in partnership with the voluntary sector. Today you can see what the Calderdale Parents and Carers Forum provide for parents and children in Halifax and District and use this to help us in shaping how we might develop in Hampshire. We wanted to make the day a fun day and provide an opportunity for your children to take part in a range of activities with their peers. We will also be providing a crèche. |
