Calming ideas Some ASD children have sensory issues that means they like the feeling of pressure against their body and therefore weighted blankets or vests/waistcoats can help. The links shown are just examples, you can purchase these from other places too including made to order on Ebay in several different character designs. It is also possible to source these via an Occupational Therapist, or to at least borrow one to see if it helps. |
Time & turn-taking Sand timers can be a very useful tool for "time outs" and also for helping a child understand the concept of time. In our house we use one when the children are on the trampoline, once the sand has gone through it's the next childs turn. Others find a digital timer with an alarm that sounds works better for them, but still they hellp with the understanding of time. |
Hand Hugger triangular pencils are another options to help your child hold a pencil with the correct grip. Alternatively you can try a triangular gripper on ordinary pencils. |
